Compton, CA Detox and Rehab Centers
The city of Compton, California, has just about 98,000 residents and is part of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.1 Alcohol abuse and excessive drinking are serious problems in Los Angeles County, just like they are in the rest of the country.
Excessive drinking is considered heavy drinking, binge drinking, or having an alcohol use disorder (AUD). In the Los Angeles area, including Compton, 17% of residents excessively drink. LA is famous for its traffic, and unfortunately, this involves many people driving while intoxicated: of all the car accidents in Compton and surrounding cities, 26% of them involve a drunk driver.1
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are 88,000 deaths every year from an alcohol-related problem nationwide, ranging from car crashes to liver cancer. And excessive drinking is responsible for 1 in 10 deaths among adults ages 20-64.3
Regular alcohol abuse causes serious long-term problems, such as heart damage (arrhythmia, drooping heart muscle) and an increased risk of strokes and heart attacks. Liver damage is the most notorious side effect of long-term excessive drinking, which can include cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatitis, and liver cancer. The risk of developing other kinds of cancer, including mouth, stomach, and breast cancer, increases with alcohol abuse as well.3
Medical supervision is needed to safely detox from alcohol, so entering a rehabilitation program with addiction counseling is the next step after ending alcohol dependence.
