Kapanol is a brand of immediate-release tablets containing morphine sulfate, a highly addictive opioid narcotic painkiller that is prescribed for the treatment of severe pain due to illness or injury. Kapanol addiction has become an issue for Americans; even though the Kapanol brand is not available in the United States, addicts circumvent the law and purchase Kapanol tablets from offshore pharmacies via the Internet. Therefore, Kapanol detox and rehab services are available in the United States. Treatment for Kapanol addiction is the same as that for addiction to any other brand of morphine sulfate tablets.

prescription drug abuseWhen doctors prescribe morphine sulfate, they do so only to relieve pain that cannot be relieved with less potent and less addictive painkillers. This drug is a Schedule II controlled substance in the United States, which means that prescriptions for morphine sulfate are very carefully monitored by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). These restrictions lead those who use morphine for recreational purposes to purchase it from offshore sources that may sell it under the Kapanol brand name.

Kapanol addiction treatment takes into account the fact that Kapanol is a legitimate product, manufactured by a well-known pharmaceutical manufacturer in Europe and Australia. It does not carry the risk of drugs purchased from street drug dealers — with street dealers, you don’t know what the drug could contain — but otherwise its effects are the same as those of any American brand of morphine sulfate. Kapanol tablets can be swallowed whole, though they are often crushed and snorted by addicts who use the drug for recreational purposes.

The number of people using prescription pain relievers, including morphine sulfate, increased from 2.6 million to 5.2 million in the United States between 1999 and 2006.

Did You Know?

Even short-term use of morphine sulfate for pain control can cause permanent changes to the structure of the brain.

How Addiction to Kapanol Occurs

“Once the brain becomes used to the presence of morphine, it sends garbled signals to the body whenever morphine is not present.”Morphine sulfate use leads to addiction that is caused by physical dependence on the drug. Morphine binds to opiate receptors in the brain to relieve pain, as well as to produce a feeling of extreme pleasure that leads recreational drug users to abuse Kapanol and similar products. Once the brain becomes used to the presence of morphine, it sends garbled signals to the body whenever morphine is not present. These garbled signals cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms; Kapanol addiction treatment is required to minimize the discomfort the sudden absence of this drug often causes.

In addition to physical withdrawal symptoms when the drug is discontinued, addiction to Kapanol and other morphine-containing products can cause the following physical and behavioral symptoms:

  • Changes in the eyes, including dilated pupils, involuntary eye movement, and double or blurred vision
  • Itching and hives
  • Constipation
  • Muscular changes, including rigid muscles and involuntary jerking of the muscles
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Shaking
  • Loss of appetite and memory loss
  • Abnormal thinking patterns, including an obsession with obtaining Kapanol
  • Hallucinations
  • Blood pressure changes
  • Failure to carry out personal, work, school or social responsibilities

Prescription opioid painkillers, including morphine sulfate, were responsible for 5,528 deaths due to poisoning in 2002. This figure is higher than that reported for deaths due to heroin or cocaine in the same year.

What Treatment Entails

These symptoms signal the need for Kapanol addiction treatment. This treatment usually begins with medical Kapanol detox, as medical detoxification helps minimize the impact of withdrawal symptoms that include severe instances of some of the symptoms above as well as restlessness and intense perspiration.

If you need to find resources for Kapanol addiction treatment to help yourself or a loved one break the grip of morphine addiction, please call our national helpline at . The helpline provides obligation-free resources regarding Kapanol rehab facilities.

Did You Know?

Morphine sulfate withdrawal symptoms are at their most severe between 36 and 72 hours after taking the last dose of the drug.

Kapanol Detox and Rehab

OutpatientKapanol detox may consist of outpatient treatment with methadone, a slower-acting and less addictive opioid that reduces cravings for morphine sulfate. Buprenorphine, a newer alternative to methadone that is also a slow-acting opioid, may be used on an outpatient basis. Inpatient Kapanol detox may consist of carefully monitored administration of a stronger medication such as naloxone or naltrexone for faster detoxification so intense counseling and therapy can begin as quickly as a few days after a patient enters a residential or inpatient addiction treatment facility.

When Kapanol rehab is carried out on a residential basis, patients are often treated in resort-like settings that enable them to focus only on recovery in relaxing surroundings, without the pressures of daily life. Sports, exercise, meditation, art, music, and other activities are provided to help patients channel their need to relieve stress in a positive way. Nevertheless, both outpatient detox and inpatient detox and rehab must be followed up with outpatient counseling in order to ensure that patients continue on the road to recovery without relapsing.

Outpatient counseling for morphine sulfate addiction is often enhanced with participation in self-help support groups, such as groups modeled on the time-honored 12-step program. Because the potential for relapse is extremely high, some form of ongoing Kapanol addiction treatment should be continued for as long as possible. Since peer support groups are voluntary, free of charge, and open to addicts in all stages of recovery, they are particularly useful for long-term avoidance of morphine sulfate addiction relapse.
