I didn’t want to die as well and after my sister I realized the likelihood of me dying was fairly high. So, I went to rehab. After I finished the 30-day program I got home and relapsed. It wasn’t right away but it was close enough to when I got home that my parents thought I had no desire to get clean. They didn’t understand and they still don’t understand the pull of heroin. I didn’t want to get high, not really but I was trying to stay clean by sheer willpower and it just wasn’t working. They sent me to that same rehab twice and neither time really helped me. I was doing great on my own but I realized that I wanted to help people the same way I was helped and I love it. Helping someone through the same thing I went through and watching come out the other side happy and sober and ready for their lives. It’s an incredible experience.
