The California city of Inglewood is just southwest of Los Angeles proper and home to more than 100,000 residents, many of whom struggle with addictions to drugs and alcohol.1
A growing addiction seen throughout the country is the abuse of prescription opioid painkillers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 115 people in the United States die every day from overdoses involving a narcotic painkiller.2
Opioids not only reduce pain sensations in the body, but they can also trigger the release of dopamine and serotonin, which elevate moods and can create an intense high. Of the people in the U.S. who currently abuse heroin and other narcotics, almost 80% began doing so after receiving a prescription for these drugs to treat pain.3
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) found that, in 2015 in Los Angeles County, about 10% of public high school students reported lifetime abuse of prescription drugs, including opioids.4 When substance abuse begins at a young age, the risk of struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol later in life increases.

The chef at Asana is excellent. She provides great, nutritious meals. I found 1:1 sessions with the clinical director to be very helpful and productive. The facility could benefit from better-trained clinical staff, and more consistent structure for the clientele.
Two staff members in particular, and the rest of the staff at Muir Wood were wonderful with my son. They were all very professional, caring, and could not have done a better job at helping my son. His time at Muir Wood was a life changing experience for our entire family. I\'ve recommended them to a close friend, and would highly do so for anyone reading this review.
My role in my loved one's recovery was not enabling any further, supportive of his steps being taken.
