Alcohol use and abuse are costing Lynwood, California, families money and lots of it. According to the County of Los Angeles Public Health Department, the tangible costs to Los Angeles County due to alcohol total $10.3 billion: $7.7 billion in lost productivity, $976.7 million in health care costs, and $1.6 billion in “other” related costs, including costs of property damage, criminal justice system use, and car accidents.1
You may not feel as if you are personally paying for any of this, but you absolutely are. If you pay taxes, your taxes are going to cover these costs and not going to cover some costs of community-supported items you use and need (e.g., good schools for your kids, subsidized childcare, and increased police protection and security). If you are not paying taxes, then you are still “paying” in the sense that you do not have access to any of the services that might be able to support you and others who are unemployed because local, state, and federal funding is tied up in paying for the billions of dollars lost to untreated addiction.

Every staff member has been amazing. From the cooks in the kitchen, to the TA’s on the floor, to the counselors. They all genuinely care and will always take the extra time to talk. I wish there was a little bit more structure as far as speaking with therapists or case managers. It seems that part of the schedule is the biggest unknown for the patients. Overall a great experience.
Did not change her behavior overall. Made her get in touch with her reality and accept her mistakes.
