ABOUT AMBROSIA TREATMENT CENTER – WEST PALM BEACH

One of three Florida-based facilities run by Ambrosia Treatment Center, the location in sunny West Palm Beach, Fla. offers residential treatment for those struggling with substance abuse. The rehab accepts adult men and women, including individuals with co-occurring disorders, and is part of the 11.7 percent of non-hospital facilities to offer residential-based detox services on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Ambrosia’s treatment philosophy is based on a traditional 12-step model supplemented with holistic therapies. The facility focuses on treating the whole person, using a holistic approach that incorporates nutrition, physical exercise, yoga, massage, hydrotherapy, and meditation. The facility is also one of 76 facilities in the state to offer acupuncture treatment. Clients also take part in comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessments.

Clients participate in group therapy twice a day and individual therapy once a day, as well as workshops on life skills, relapse prevention, and anger management. They also attend 12-step meetings and are encouraged to find temporary sponsors while in treatment.

A specialized trauma program incorporates mindfulness, psychodrama, and meditation into its treatment groups, and a monthly family program offers education and counseling. Other activities include yoga, art therapy, and employment counseling.

Detox lasts approximately three to 10 days, while the residential program is 14 to 35 days. Continuing care and alumni support are also available, which includes 24/7 support and bi-weekly group meetings.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Ambrosia’s treatment team is comprised of clinical therapists, case managers, licensed psychiatrists, registered nurses, recovery coaches, discharge coordinators and wellness representatives. The program boasts a staff-to-client ratio of 3:1. Like 30.4 percent of facilities in Florida, Ambrosia is certified by the Joint Comission. To date, the eight individuals polled on the matter praised the staff's aptitude.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Ambrosia’s West Palm Beach location houses up to 36 residents at a time in modern residences with large bathrooms, full kitchens, and comfortable living areas furnished with flat-screen TVs. Amenities include an on-site fitness center and a swimming pool, as well as outdoor areas where group sessions are held. The eight individuals polled to date on the center's cleanliness gave excellent reviews.

The quality of the staff was a recurring topic of praise across reviews, as well as the accommodations. “Small group and therapists/counselors experienced and well trained,” A.M wrote, while K.C. added: “Amazing staff. They really give a lot of attention to the individual and the family.” In regards to the facility, Lisa felt "Accommodations nice, grocery shop and cook for ourselves, near the beach."

Reviews on third-party sites were equally positive, as 53 individuals gave an average rating of 4.7 out of five stars. "Changed my life for the better and i’m so happy with the life I live today," wrote T.M. "From the facility to the environment and especially the staff! Always willing to help out in anyway they can and always go above and beyond what they’re asked to do!"

Loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date also gave glowing reviews. Loved ones openly appreciated the amount of support and attention they received from staff. Kathe wrote to Rehabs.com, "This was the only facility that reached out to the parents and made us feel that what we were going through mattered as well," while Darla commended the “very personal and caring staff.”

Loved one K.K. echoed these opinions, awarding a perfect five-star rating for the facility's family program and four stars for the amount of family participation. "I found that Ambrosia cared about my son and about me as his mother," she wrote.

WHAT STAFF SAY

However, the single staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing rated the treatment effectiveness only one out of five stars and felt there were no strengths. However, the staff member gave moderate three-star ratings for the facility's counseling options, holistic offerings, and the staff's level of experience and training.
