ABOUT AWARE RECOVERY CARE HOME BASED ADDICTION TREATMENT IN CONNECTICUT
Headquartered in North Haven, Conn., and serving clients throughout Connecticut and New Hampshire, Aware Recovery Care (ARC) is an evidence-based drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation program for adults and adolescents. The center is a private, for-profit facility, which make up about eight percent of all treatment facilities in Connecticut. ARC offers a one-year outpatient program. Clients receive treatment in their homes. Clients come from an array of backgrounds, including clients with young family obligations, individuals transitioning out of residential treatment, corporate executives, licensed professionals, and students. Detox is not available.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
ARC treats addiction as a chronic disease needing ongoing, whole-person rehabilitative care. Before beginning a highly-individualized recovery program, each client meets with a staff psychiatrist and undergoes a physical exam at their home. If detox is necessary, the treatment staff provides a referral and manages arrangements.
Over the course of the year that follows, a certified recovery advisor (CRA) meets regularly with the client to coordinate medical assessments, therapies, support group strengthening, and collaboration with existing clinicians. ARC is one of the 185 (88.1 percent) of Connecticut facilities that offer family counseling.
The CRA facilitates a holistic curriculum and is one of the 113 (53.8 percent) of the state’s treatment facilities to use dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Trauma-related counseling is also a popular treatment method used at ARC.
Holistic and alternative treatment methods are encouraged throughout the treatment process. Clients have access to options like yoga and acupuncture, which is available at only 39 of Connecticut’s treatment facilities. Medication-assisted therapy (MAT) is available for clients that need the assistance of medications to make it through the treatment process. MAT treatments are overseen by qualified medical personnel.
The 12-step process is included in the treatment process as well. The 12-Step program is widely used, including in 70 percent of the state’s treatment facilities, for its spiritual and long-term care components. It is encouraged since clients can use it as a continuing care component long after they finish their primary treatment method.
Monitoring and testing services are both made available to clients. They can choose to opt into random substance use screenings and a GPS tracking system. That way, there is a higher level of accountability while still in treatment.
As clients prepare to transition out of the treatment programs, transition services are made available. Clients work with case managers to develop a continuing care plan that involves counseling and partnerships with community support services. That way, clients are supported throughout the transition and can access services on a periodic basis.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The CRA is trained in understanding several therapeutic modalities. They coordinate sessions with the ARC network of board-certified addiction psychiatrists, master’s level family therapists, registered nurses, case managers, and registered dietitians.

Thank you for your detailed and specific response. It is extremely helpful to read your review so that I can take your experience back to the clinical team to address your concerns. At Aware Recovery Care, thankfully, we are in a constant state of growth and development as a result of the hard work and desire to do the right thing. As someone who was one of the first clients at Aware after going to over a dozen treatment centers personally, I know what the magic is and how we differ from a more traditional offering. I am sorry that you had a negative experience. As you so eloquently wrote in your review, not any single experience can possibly represent everyone's opinion, nor can it represent absolute reality. Without both positive and negative feedback, like in any other arena in life, we are not able to learn or develop. I hope that you have found your path to recovery, health, and wellness. Our paths are as unique as all of us as individuals are. Thanks again for sharing your review and rest assured that we will take it to heart.
