Specialization

  • The Cliffside Malibu Guarantee

Cliffside Malibu has 3 levels of care: Primary Care (includes detox if needed), Extended Care, and Continuing Care. Each level of care is a minimum of 30 days in length and may be at different cost structures depending upon the client’s needs, desires, and availability. At Cliffside Malibu, we offer a guarantee that if the client completes all 3 levels of care at our facility and follows our aftercare recommendations, but has a relapse prior to obtaining one full year of sobriety, then Cliffside Malibu will take the client back into our 30 day Primary Care program free of charge. This is our way of matching the client’s commitment to help them completely recover, thrive, and ultimately be the best person they were always meant to be.
  • Relapse Prevention Therapy

Relapse, the term used for a return to alcohol abuse and drug dependence, is not a necessary part of recovery and very often can be prevented. At Cliffside Malibu, we offer all residents relapse prevention therapy, which teaches clients how to recognize the warning signs of relapse and intervene before returning to addictive behaviors.

  • Richard Taite
    Richard TaiteFounder and CEO
Cliffside Malibu CEO and founder Richard Taite has lived in the Los Angeles area his entire life. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science with the idea of becoming a lawyer but instead, life and fate got in the way. After spending many years as an addict and alcoholic, and being in and out of various programs and sober living facilities, Richard achieved sobriety on March 3, 2003. Soon after, with the seed money he had from his own medical bill collections and medical-legal consulting company, Richard purchased a sprawling property in Malibu with breathtaking white water ocean views. As he continued to work on his recovery, he began to notice others relapsing. He found that there was a lack of exceptional resources for people needing aftercare for their continued sobriety. It didn’t take long before the desire emerged in him to create a dedicated sober living facility for men.

These places are a complete scam. They offer a vacation for the well off and those who want to get everyone off their backs. This is why they do absolutely nothing for you during and after your stay. Because recidivism rates keep them profitable. Think about this. While you do that, watch this from John Oliver exposing the dirty side of this place and others. Vice News also interviewed the owner here and he was exposed. Why are all these news expose shows focusing on these scammers?

I was there in July of 2017 and it's just not quite what they make it out to be. The organic food comes in largely frozen and often from Costco. They prepare meals for many different houses there, so those that require a special diet often have to ask many times to get the food they can eat. They offer some "bells and whistles", but it is often difficult or chaotic to access these programs - they can't find a driver to take the group, there is no car available, or no gas in the car, etc. When clients mention, "hey, I think it's supposed to work a bit smoother than this" they are told to mention it to their therapist, who then tells them to mention in their exit interview. Basically, the underlying message is "you are a pathetic addict and we think you are demanding." For those who are keen on privacy... from the driver who loudly asks in a crowded public waiting room (you have to go to the lab for blood draws), "what's your drug of choice?" there just is no real privacy. The therapy is good, but you should know that whatever you share with your therapist and in group is accessible to the staff - even those staff that are not trained as therapists. Apparently, even staff who identify themselves as retired. Again, that message of "you are just a pathetic addict, why are you asking this" is conveyed. It's three thousand dollars a day - I think there must be a better way to spend this money to get the help with more privacy and without the shame.

nutritious food, beautiful setting, very supportive staff. It's been a few months since my cousin completed his treatment, and he's still doing great. It is quite pricey, but it's hard to put a price on successful sobriety My cousin, JB, has gone through other treatment programs with minimal success. They were able to substitute his drug and alcohol habits with productive and healthy new habits. He was so proud about his completion and new life, and we were all so happy to get our friend and family member back. I am so grateful. Thank you, Cliffside.

When it was evident my best friend needed to go to a rehabilitation center, I did my research to find the best one out there. I didn\'t want to spend time trying to help by finding a place that wouldn\'t really change her life. Looking back, it was a really hectic and stressful time for her and all of her loved ones but when I found Cliffside online I immediately felt like everything was going to be ok for her. Not only are the facilities and location amazingly beautiful, the staff here is truly professional and upon arrival were very welcoming and accommodating for her (and me). I knew she was in great hands and throughout her therapy I could really start seeing a shift in how she viewed her life. She became more confident and grounded again as she had been when I first met her. Also because of their wonderful nutrition program that they personalized for her, she looked healthier and told me she never knew she could feel that great with just eating the right food. The one on one attention she got is one of the valuable things I think helped her the most since the therapist she worked with was so knowledgeable and well trained. Now, not only do I have my friend back, I am confident that she is fully healed from her addiction and will continue to live a healthy life. Thank you Cliffside for everything.
