Damascus uses a solution based approach to life problems in areas of work, school, and family as well as influencing interpersonal relationships through positive peer support inside and outside the residence. The utilization of the 12 steps of AA and NA are the basis for the recovery process.

12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.Individual Therapy
This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.

Meet the Staff
Tim Strickland, M.Ed., LPC, MAC, CCS Counselor/OwnerMr. Strickland earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1995 from Georgia Southern University in Therapeutic Recreation. He began his career working with adolescents at a Residential Treatment Facility in Bloomingdale, Ga. He eventually earned a Master's Degree in Counseling from Georgia Southern in 1998 and began working with all age groups in Mental Health for the state of Georgia. He spent four years as a Counselor in the Wayne County School System and now works with Bulloch Recovery Resources. He currently has a Georgia License to practice as a Professional Counselor and is Nationally Certified as a Master Addiction Counselor. His community involvement includes teaching Adult Sunday School at the Pembroke United Methodist Church and serving as 1st Vice President and Secretary for the Pembroke Lions Club. Mr. Strickland has previously held the position as the Community Chair for the Enforcement Work Group for the Georgia Southern University/Community Coalition to address Alcohol issues on and off campus. He was recently named 2013 Licensed Professional Counselor of the year for the state of Georgia by the Licensed Professional Counselors Association for his development of Damascus, LLC, Research and Development for the DUI court treatment protocols for Bulloch County, and his outstanding efficacy with working with men who suffer from the disease of addiction. He speaks at public events several times a year and has developed and implements curriculum for substance abuse education geared towards college students monthly in Statesboro, Georgia.
Vern Howard, NCAC I, SAPCounselor/OwnerMr. Howard is a native of and resides in Bulloch County. He attended Georgia Southern University and graduated from Royal Oak Community College. He is a veteran of the United States armed forces. As a Nationally Certified Addictions Counselor and Substance Abuse Professional, he provides counseling for alcohol and drug abuse/dependence. He teaches Anger Management and Alcohol and Drug Awareness Programs for Relapse Prevention. He owns and operates Bulloch Recovery Resources, an Outpatient Substance Abuse facility that provides Alcohol/Drug Evaluations and Individual/Group Treatment programs for members of the Statesboro community and surrounding counties.
