Former employee of Elmhurst home. The environment is less than inviting and the kitchen in the men's facility has a mice problem, nice equipment in a deplorable building and In need of serious renovations. Sooooo my two weeks was crappy but I made it work because the pay was great! I trained for 4hours by the old cook Mrs. White who is not in touch with today's ways of cooking and serving food. We used pot and pan cleaner to wash our hands because they were to cheap and or nasty to think real soap was a requirement when cooking people food, ( never saw the lady wash her hands), now I was OK with being fired honestly, they gave you the responsibility of cooking for both kitchens but paying you for only one, ( Elmhurst and Naomi's nest) and then told me it was okay because both centers together only had about 80 to 100 people, which is still not what my contract said I would be doing. I applied to cook for them at Elmhurst that's what I was hired to do, but because they were short staffed they put both kitchens on whoever they got. It's just you and the men in the kitchen, monitors only came down to kitchen to do temperature checks during lunch, and would leave as soon as they got everyone Temps, no one would be there during dinner just me and they men, no real plan of action in case danger arise( at least if it is one no one told it to me) would I work here again?????. At first I would have loved to worked for them again ( the pay is great in the kitchen), until it was time to receive my last check. Friday was pay day, there is no one to contact when you are not paid until Monday, Monday came I called three times about my check, felt like the run around, no call back from anyone. Tuesday called again, started with the run around until I finally told the hr lady Ms. Pembroke this is absurd, you should never have to chase people down about your money, or feel like that's what your doing, pay day was five days ago and I'm still calling instead of someone saying don't worry we will take care of this. She finally called me back and said tomorrow ( wednesday) I can pick up my check! That's a deal breaker in my book, when I give you my time I want my pay when you said I will receive it. That shows the lack of care and compassion for employees personal obligations or reasons for employment. It's in a horrible part of town. I would rather work in the suburbs, they don't mind spending money so staff are comfortable!
