Aftercare Support
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.

- Dr. Satnam S. Atwal MDMedical DirectorHerndon Recovery Center's network of programs is directly supervised by its Medical Director. Formerly, Chief Psychiatrist with the Fresno County Department of Mental Health, Dr. Satnam S. Atwal MD is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist. He has been in private practice for over 20 years. Dr. Atwal has long experience of treating addicted individuals. In addition to treating psychiatry issues of individuals participating in programs, he also focuses on medical psychological and social issues causing addictions. Dr. Atwal feels that 60 to 70 percent of individuals suffering from addiction problems also suffer from underlying comorbid psychiatric illnesses. If addiction and psychiatric issues are not treated simultaneously, the chance of relapse is significant. Dr. Atwal does not believe in using confrontation as a treatment tool. Rather, dealing with addicted individuals with compassion, persuasion and focusing on self-esteem issues is more beneficial in the treatment process. In addition, Dr. Atwal has the expertise to detoxify individuals suffering from various chemical dependencies.
