Treatment was good but meals could have been better.

Strengths: The majority of staff are in recovery as well. Really aren't any. Would of been nice to talk to family more than once a week. Took about a week to settle in. Once I did I found it was easy to finally express myself to others. Something I haven't done in a long time. I was with women of all ages 18 to mid 50's but it seemed like we were all the same age. Karios is just a peaceful place. We were always doing something. Got to learn who I am. Weaknesses: If I could change anything it wouldn't have to do with their treatment plan. It would be the little things you take for granted like t.v' in our rooms. They could put times on them to shut them off so we weren't up all night. More snacks through out the day. We only got breakfast, lunch, dinner then a little I mean little snack before bed. Pmsing & metapausing women need to eat. Then the use of the phone. Would of been nice to talk to family more than once a week for 10 minutes. Lastly coffee gotta have coffee. Only got one 6oz cup at 6:30,8:30,10:30. I understand the whole coffees a stimulate but come on let us drink cup or just have it til dinner & 1 cup after diner then no more. Anyway I would recommend karios any day.

Strengths: Flexibility, some caring staff, staff with success in recovery. Weaknesses: Had no to poor safety protocol for direct care staff and, as a result, the "patients," no resources available to run groups, limited computer/printer access, no continuing education for staff, and no generalized approach counselor to counselor. I raised a number of concerns with the program director (including safety issues, no availability of resources for counselors, no generalized treatment protocol, and lack of on-going training for staff. Director heard me but nothing was done about it to my knowledge. I left not long afterward...I just hope they improved their overall quality of service and programming. Their were good staff and patients there...
