We at River Oaks in the greater Tampa area understand that each of our patients is a unique individual who, therefore, has unique, individual treatment needs. This is why we offer personalized programs as well as a continuum of care that encompasses several different levels of treatment including medical detox, inpatient rehab, residential treatment, and more. You can move through different levels of care as you progress in your recovery without having to leave River Oaks. The professionals at River Oaks provide all patients with customized care plans that ensure your needs are met and you have the best possible shot at long-term recovery in the greater Tampa area. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, substance use disorders are primarily treated with counseling and behavioral therapies. Therapies are extremely effective for treating addiction. We understand that clients’ responses to specific therapies will vary based on several factors such as time in treatment, the presence of co-occurring disorders, and the types of drugs abused. As such, we offer a full spectrum of therapies that allow our clients the privilege to receive the best care possible for their needs as well as the opportunity to refocus their lives in the way that is most effective for them. Our facility in Riverview Florida offers top-tier features and luxury amenities that range from massage therapy to art and music therapy—all of which have been found to be effective for individuals recovering from addiction and trauma. In addition, we offer private and semi-private rooms, full beds with pillow-top mattresses, and other perks to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We want to give you all the necessary tools to allow you to relax and focus first and solely on your recovery. We know just how important it is to have ongoing access to services and support when you leave rehab; therefore, our staff at River Oaks is dedicated to helping you build an appropriate aftercare program before you leave our facility and providing you with the support you will need during your next several months and years in recovery. Specialization

  • Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
  • Family Program
Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness, or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.
  • Medical Detoxification
Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.
  • Aftercare Support
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Our facility offers aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by planning and making arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

Rehabs 360 Guide

ABOUT RIVER OAKS.

River Oaks remains open and committed to providing critical addiction treatment during the Coronavirus pandemic. As per the updated CDC guidelines, patients who are vaccinated may not need to quarantine upon admissions. Those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 should bring their vaccination cards to the facility when they enter treatment. COVID-19 testing at River Oaks remains available, and the facility is accepting both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients.

Owned and operated by American Addiction Centers (AAC), River Oaks treatment center provides holistic, evidence-based treatment to individuals struggling with substance use or co-occurring mental health disorders. Set just outside Tampa, Fla., the rehab center supports spiritual, physical, and psychological recovery through AAC’s in-house-developed curriculum, physical activity, meditation, and rest.

Three levels of residential and outpatient care are available at this center, along with medically monitored detoxification is available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Following a physical, psychological, and social assessment, each client begins a plan of treatment which is adjusted as necessary throughout the rehabilitative process to provide the best care. The facility’s website emphasizes the goal of empowering clients in their recovery.

If detox is necessary, the five- to seven-day drug-specific, medically-monitored process is provided in a dedicated section of the residential facilities. During the withdrawal process, therapists also work with clients to address related mood and behavioral health concerns.

The length of stay for residential treatment varies, but 90 days is the typical recommendation. All programs incorporate 12-step concepts with the “Embracing Change: Recovery for Life” workbook-based curriculum, which features an array of information about addiction, reflection exercises, and therapeutic practices. Depending on clinicians’ recommendations, clients may participate in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, or trauma-informed modalities such as eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), and Seeking Safety. Experiential therapies offered include equine, art and music.

In addition to residential care, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or day program and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) are available. The PHP meets for six to eight hours a day most days of the week and prioritizes helping clients to transition back to life outside of rehab, through sober recreation and building support systems. Similarly, IOP clients meet three to seven days each week, but for just three hour spans. River Oaks staff members also work with each client to develop aftercare plans and can provide referrals to sober living services.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes physicians, nurses, master’s level therapists, licensed social workers, and behavioral health technicians, according to job descriptions accessible through the facility’s website. In Florida, 98.4 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for staff, as of the year 2016.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The River Oaks campus is described on its website as retreat-like. Photographs feature modern, comfortably furnished meeting and bedrooms, a beautiful lawn and gardens with multiple outdoor seating areas, and a basketball court. The staff includes a personal trainer and professional chef who prepares gourmet meals.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Feedback from the 26 alumni submitted to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing was perfectly mixed, with 13 positive reviews and 13 negative reviews.

One of the most frequently referenced points in these reviews is the relative newness of the facility. In a representative comment regarding disorganization, alum T.T. wrote, “This is a new facility. They have not worked out the kinks. There is not enough staff.” Angela noted that the program’s therapy workbooks were not available during her first two weeks in treatment, and Robert wrote, "Very unorganized," adding, "The first three days there I couldn\'t find out hardly any info from staff. After talking with other clients I found out this was the norm rather than the exception." Even Yvonne, in an overall positive review, relayed how the nurses discharged her "with incorrect and missing medication." A second alum complained about her experience with discharge procedures as well, feeling that the staff was "more worried about getting paperwork done for discharge rather than caring about what happened after discharge."

Many of the favorable reviews represented the staff as caring and accommodations as high quality, and nine former clients rated the effectiveness of treatment received four or five stars out of five. One former client referred to the program as "exceptional," another praised facility for being "a professional place" with "great activities to do," and a third was grateful for the "comfortable community." However, two critical reviewers complained of not enough one-on-one access to their therapists, three reported issues with cleanliness, and another three commented that their experience did not match what they expected from marketing materials. Former client complained about the cost and U.D. warned that this facility, "over sells, manipulates, and offends it's clients/patients."

Secondary sites yielded much more positive feedback to date. The facility's Facebook page, which the facility has the ability to manage, showcases a 4.4-star average from 47 users.[2] "Beautiful Facility" and "Sold Groups" are two positive sentiments written by J.J. and shared by most reviewers. "Great client care. This is a phenomenal program with loving staff," former client J.P. wrote in another representative comment.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

All seven reviews submitted to Rehabs.com by loved ones were extremely negative to date. Feedback was in line with alumni comments regarding misleading marketing, overwhelmed staff members, and inadequate treatment for co-occurring conditions. The most widespread complaint was about the facility's connectivity policy and the overall inability to get in contact with their loved ones. The parent of a client expressed frustration at trying to contact her son, only to be "transferred around before (she) got voicemail. No one bothered to call back." Another loved one, Dennise, gave low, one-star ratings to treatment effectiveness, safety, and whether or not the treatment was worth the cost. "My loved one feels like she didn't get any thing at this center but more problems to deal with once she got out I feel the same," Dennise added, in a representative response.

At the time of this writing, family and friends on Google, where the has 3.9 stars from 79 users, were much more pleased with their loved ones' experiences.[1] The staff, the facility upkeep, and the range of activities are all praised. "I am so thankful for this facility. My husband has returned home a different person. Happy and sober. He made friends there that he still keeps in touch with and they support one another," S.S. wrote in a representative response on Google.

Bethany is a Therapist, who held attention in groups. She was fun and energetic. She taught in a way that I understood and related with 99% of the time. She allowed the group to openly discuss her lessons with her and would break things down for us. Bethany held me accountable too! If I walked in late and thought I could make it quick enough before she noticed... yeah right. She would call me out when I did and let me know that I was not sneaky. After her groups we would all be smiling when we walked out. She even sat in other groups with us participated and shared like she was a resident! Spunky and advocated for all of us.

When people hear the word Cafeteria they would not imagine the cleanliness, and love that the River Oaks food coordinators have. It was not how I pictured at all. Ms. Glenda kept a quick pace to get us all through the line and fed accordingly. I had some teeth that were broken and could not eat the meals being served, so she made sure to have a "special" plate just for me. That made me feel like an important woman, to know that I would not go without something that didnt hurt my mouth to eat. She works so hard to serve enough food for everyone on campus, and always greeted everyone with a smile and kindness most people do not. The food was great, multiple choices to pick from, the property was very well cleaned and stocked, and the staff from houskeeping to the Bosses, made my time here worth it.

River Oaks has an outstanding bubbly and cheerful young lady by the name of Ray, " little ray" we would call her, that represents everything Recovery in every way. She is so cute and funny, but would not let anyone mess around. She always made my day when I would see her. Ray gave compliments to everyone and was so easy going. She would walk in to do head counts and would sit right on down and listen to the discussions while she was making sure we were all where we were supposed to be. If I was having an off day, I could count on her to turn it around. She would even talk "program" to people and make us see a different point of view on the topic or situation. The rooms were always cleaned and stocked properly, and smelled so fresh everyday when we were through with groups. Even the Administrators made people feel welcome and safe. River Oaks Treatment Center gave me just what I needed when I needed it the most. Sobriety and the want to have and proceed working an Honest Wonderful Program of Recovery.

The property here had the most appealing and pretty flowers, was tended to and taken care of by the best man on campus! Rosae. This man takes such pride in his work and it truly shows. He works so so hard in the heat, and rain. Cleaned up after people when he needed to and never complained. He made sure each dorm building had coffee, creamer, and sugar every morning to! I told you all he is the best! He was always smiling and supportive with the program. A couple times he was seen standing by the room where we had classes and it was like he was learning as well. Great staff, lessons, and skills any person could ever need.

Nurse Practitioner Lovanie knew exactly how to help me and what I was trying describe when I had to put in a sick call to be seen. The medication I was on at first had a negative reaction with a different medication I had started, she quickly recognized what the problem was and why, and found a solution that worked for me. She always got stuff done and didn't waste time doing so. Lovanie had such a big bright smile every time I would see her. I will say that for a rehab, River Oaks has the right stuff. Lessons and staff and equipped with the medical team. Techniques to help with thought processes and so much more...
