The Volpicelli Center treats individuals suffering from substance abuse issues on an outpatient basis, providing clients with individualized weekly and biweekly treatment services. Using medically supervised, evidence-based practices, The Volpicelli Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) enables individuals struggling with addiction to attend to all academic, vocational, and familial obligations while receiving care. For those suffering from opiate or alcohol withdrawal, The Volpicelli Center provides ambulatory detoxification, allowing for maximum comfort while recovering in one’s own home.

    While you receive treatment at the Volpicelli Center you will have a team of professionals involved in your care. This team consists of a physician, physician assistant, nurse or medical assistant. The “physician of record,” will supervise your treatment and determine when you are ready to be discharged.

Joseph Volpicelli, M.D., Ph.D.Doctor
    Dr. Volpicelli graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1981 and completed his residency there in 1985. Since then he has spent the last twenty-five years as a pioneer in clinical research, education, and practice. Throughout this time, he was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and Senior Scientist at the Pennsylvania VA Center for Research on Addictive Disorders. Dr. Volpicelli is also the author of “Recovery Options: The Complete Guide” and “Combining Medication and Psychosocial Treatments for Addictions: The Brenda Approach.” Dr. Volpicelli has led the way in the integration of medications with psychotherapy support to treat addictions. His research on the use of Naltrexone led to the first new medication to be approved by the FDA for alcohol treatment in nearly fifty years.

    Kris joined the practice in 2011, but originally hails from California where she worked in social services for the County of San Luis Obisbo. Kris is not only the office manager, but also a great asset to patients as she applies her background towards assisting with a variety of services including help with both insurance and pharmaceutical companies.
