The Women's Treatment Center

The Women’s Treatment Center works with chemically dependent women struggling with issues such as homelessness, poverty, trauma, and co-occurring mental disorders. Upon arrival, those in need of assisted withdrawal from opiates, alcohol, and other drugs may participate in a medically-supervised detoxification program for an average of four to six days. Residents attend weekly individual counseling sessions, trauma recovery, medical monitoring, and parenting services. Outpatient services and medication assisted treatment for opioid addiction are available to those seeking treatment outside of a residential setting. Mothers are invited to bring children six years of age and below into residential treatment if desired.

Individual Therapy
This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.Dual Diagnosis/ Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

Meet the Staff
Linda MarandaExecutive DirectorMs. Maranda has spent the last eleven years as the Executive Director of Caritas Central Intake, the largest facility of its kind in the state, and has also served for five years on the volunteer Board of Directors of TWTC. Her prior leadership roles were in residential and out-patient substance abuse treatment programs at Cornell-Interventions, Illinois. Ms. Maranda is held in exceptionally high esteem by her peers in the field of social work and substance abuse treatment. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Loyola University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from St. Xavier University, Chicago. She also maintains CSADC and MISA II certifications through the Illinois Certification Board. “I am pleased to be a part of The Women’s Treatment Center’s rich history of helping women obtain the recovery tools and parenting skills necessary to maintain a sober lifestyle as they rebuild their lives and mend the bonds with their families. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the team that will make The Women’s Treatment Center a beacon of light and hope for the women and children who seek our services.”
Patricia E. Shaw, RN, BSN, MS Deputy DirectorMs. Shaw began her employment at TWTC as Director of Nursing in 1991, soon after the facility opened. She became Deputy Director in 2001, continuing to supervise TWTC’s nursing services, and adding responsibilities for facility operations, quality management, information technology and dietary services. Most recently, she managed TWTC’s transition to electronic medical records. Ms. Shaw holds a Master of Science Degree in Health Service Administration from the University of St. Francis and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Lewis University. "Lives have been changed here, and the bonds between countless women and children have been mended. It is very satisfying to have a role in this process - and their journey," she said.
