ABOUT TREE HOUSE RECOVERY PDX
Located in Portland, Ore., Tree House Recovery PDX is a long-term residential program for men seeking treatment for chemical dependency. It is one of the 125 (55.3 percent) facilities in Oregon that offers treatment programs specifically for men. Unique to Tree House Recovery, the facility utilizes both evidence-based and traditional methods, as well as an intensive physical fitness regimen throughout the residential program to promote sustainable recovery. The facility does not provide medical detoxification services on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients may undergo an initial substance abuse history assessment to help clinicians develop an individualized treatment curriculum. Overall, Tree House Recovery PDX's treatment utilizes three core approaches to programming: counseling and education, holistic methods, and physical fitness training. The length of the long-term residential program is determined by individual needs and treatment progress. There are only 33 (14.6 percent) facilities in Oregon that offer long-term treatment options.
During the resident program, clients attend both process group therapy and one-on-one counseling to address the underlying concerns that may contribute to addictive behavior. Residents also attend educational presentations and interactive group classes that cover a range of topics related to chemical dependency, including the physiology of addiction, predisposition factors, and relapse prevention skills training.
Tree House Recovery also uses the RIA program to promote goal setting and lasting physical changes. The program is designed to teach clients ongoing physical fitness methods of relapse prevention. By training clients to maintain their bodies, they are less likely to return to substance abuse.
To improve mindfulness, self-expression, and coping skills, Tree House Recovery also requires residents to participate in writing therapy. Writing therapy is designed to guide clients through a self-analysis of traumatic memories to process and address them. In addition, clients attend a trauma-informed method of yoga designed to address physical and mental health concerns simultaneously.
Intensive physical fitness training plays a major role in overall programming. During the residential programming, clients participate in vigorous workouts led by Tree House's trainers. One component of the fitness regimen is Action Based Induction Therapy (ABI Therapy), which is a repetitive form of exercise that is designed to improve the prefrontal cortex function of the brain. Often diminished through prolonged addiction, this part of the brain is responsible for overall mood and self-esteem. In some cases, fitness training may also be goal-oriented, as residents may compete in monthly competitions, such as Spartan races and team challenges.
