  • Inpatient/residential rehab—This type of treatment might include both detox and rehab services, as the patient stays overnight at a facility or hospital for a certain amount of time.3, Pg 14 “What types of treatment programs are available, Para 2
  • Outpatient rehab/therapy—This type of treatment can be offered at a variety of places and the patient will visit the facility for the treatment, but return home in the evening.3, Pg 16, Para 2 Treatment and attendance requirements will vary based on your unique situation.
  • Intensive outpatient programs (IOP)—This type of outpatient treatment is typically more involved than standard outpatient care and may involve a patient attending care between 9-20 hours per week. 3, Pg 16, Para 3

Does Managed Health Network Insurance Cover Inpatient Mental Health Care Facilities?

Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), most health insurance plans in the United States are required to provide some level of coverage for mental health care and treatment, including treatment for substance use disorders.4, first bulleted list Because MHN is not a health insurance plan, it is not required to provide coverage for such services. However, MHN was created to provide such access for employees and covered members, so it will likely provide some type of coverage for mental health care.1, “MHN’s Products and Services”

Even though MHN isn’t mandated to provide coverage for stand-alone heroin rehab or co-occurring disorder treatment, these plans may help you receive such care. A co-occurring disorder is when someone is experiencing both a mental health and substance use disorder at the same time.5, Para 2

Please include additional information on why a co-occurring disorder needs to be treated in tandem

How Long Does Managed Health Network Insurance Cover Rehab?

Because there are many different MHN behavioral health service plans, and those plans may be designed by employers, there’s no standard length of time that a plan may cover the cost of rehab or related treatments. Be sure to check with your MHN plan representative for more information about your specific behavioral health plan coverage details. You can access this information by calling the number on the back of your insurance card or asking a rehab center staff member to help you verify your benefits and coverage.

What’s more, there’s no single treatment that may be appropriate for every person seeking treatment. Despite these facts, there’s one thing that experts agree on—and that’s the fact that remaining in recovery and treatment for a sufficient time is essential. The research demonstrates that most people recovering from addiction need to be in treatment for at least 3 months to stop or curb their drug use.6, Bullet #5 The best outcomes typically coincide with treatment durations that are longer. 6, Bullet #5

What if My Managed Health Network Policy Does Not Cover Rehab?

It is possible that your MHN behavioral health plan may not fully or partially cover the cost of rehab. If this is the case, you should still receive care. Getting the treatment right now is critical, as delaying care could result in your addiction worsening.

Depending on the rehab center you attend, there may be financing or scholarship opportunities available to you. Be sure to ask rehab center staff if any of these options are available to see if you’d qualify or be able to apply to help offset your out-of-pocket costs.

Managed Health Network In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Rehab Centers

In- and out-of-network facilities will play a large role in your out-of-pocket rehab costs. A network is the term used to refer to the providers, facilities, and suppliers that are contracted with your plan to provide health care services.7 Generally speaking, obtaining care from an in-network provider, or one who is within your plan’s network, is more cost-effective for you. To check whether a provider is within your network, call your MHN representative at the number on the back of your card.

Managed Health Network Plans
